NAPTIP Probes Child Sex Abuse Claims at Simi’s Mum’s Daycare
The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has stepped in with a promise of thorough investigation, as allegations of child sexual abuse swirl around singer Simisola “Simi” Kosoko’s mother’s daycare centre.
Old social media posts from the 37-year-old star have ignited a firestorm, resurfacing amid her public stand against sexual assault in Nigeria. It began when Simi spoke out on growing fears of sexual assault, sparked by TikToker Mirabel’s now-retracted claim of being raped in her apartment.
Netizens quickly turned the spotlight on Simi herself, digging up posts from her X account dating back to 2012. In them, the then-23-year-old, who was helping at her mother’s daycare, described a four-year-old child as having a crush on her and “acting like he wants loc lip”.
Another post allegedly noted the same child was “trying to put hand inside my shet (sic)”. The backlash hit hard, with accusations of pedophilia flying from social media users. Simi, caught in the emotional crossfire of public scrutiny, pushed back firmly.
She insisted the posts had been misinterpreted and manipulated to fuel misleading narratives, stressing she had never acted immorally in her life. “I was not famous, so maybe if I were, I would have understood that anything is open to whatever interpretation, including being used falsely by a faceless mob. I’ve never been depraved in my life.
”Her public profile, she explained, now exposed her youthful expressions to relentless judgment. Once carefree tweets about crushes or cheeky moments now faced distortion. Reluctantly, Simi revealed her team had begun removing some older posts, prioritizing her family’s peace over preserving every word from her past.
“You can retweet all the tweets in the world about me loudly crushing on people I admired or being a cheeky young woman. I wasn’t trying to hide it, because I don’t have anything to hide. ”The uproar reached authorities, prompting NAPTIP’s decisive response on its Instagram page Tuesday.
The agency committed to probing all credible reports of child sexual abuse or misconduct in daycare settings, urging those with evidence to come forward confidentially.
“Following recent public discussions and concerns raised regarding alleged incidents of child sexual abuse/misconduct in daycare settings in Nigeria, we are committed to thoroughly investigating credible reports.
“We kindly request anyone with factual information, evidence, direct knowledge, or who was personally affected by the matters referenced in the viral posts or related experiences to kindly reach out to us confidentially. Via DM or email.
We take all reports of child sexual abuse/misconduct seriously and are committed to investigating every credible claim. ”For Simi, a celebrated voice in music with hits like “Duduke” and “Joromi”, this marks a painful collision between her advocacy and her personal history.
The contrast stings: championing victims of assault, only to face accusations dredging up innocent anecdotes from her early twenties. As NAPTIP’s investigation unfolds, the singer stands at a tense crossroads, her redemption hinging on facts separating youthful banter from serious claims.
